Course Overview:
Criminal Investigations are becoming more and more scrutinized by everyone involved in the criminal justice process, including the media. With the advancements of technology, it is critical that detectives leave no stone unturned when investigating.
From securing the crime scene to interviewing victims/witnesses to interrogating suspects, a detective must remain diligent and conduct themselves in a professional manner.
This course will include a block of instruction on the use of victimology while conducting criminal investigations. Although victimology is a controversial subject, it has been utilized time and time again by seasoned investigators to solve criminal offenses ranging from simple burglaries to gruesome homicides. Information will be presented what show demographic profiles of crime victims and convicted criminals that are strikingly similar.
There is nothing more damaging to a criminal than a legally obtained confession of their involvement in the crime being investigated. Because of recent civil lawsuits and court rulings, detectives are having to use more caution than ever before when conducting an interrogation.
The overall goal of this two-day training course is to expose ALL detectives, regardless of tenure, to up-to-date methods for conducting criminal investigations.
