Student Pre-Requisites to enroll in class:
1. Not prohibited by state or federal law or rule from attending training related to firearms or from possessing a firearm;
2. Never had a license or certificate issued by the commission suspended or revoked;
3. Currently hold an Instructor Certificate issued by the commission **MUST PROVIDE BY EMAIL THE TCOLE INSTRUCTOR PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATE to [email protected] to take this course.**
Certification Requirements (to get TCOLE Firearms Proficiency Certificate):
1. Not prohibited by state or federal law or rule from attending training related to firearms or from possessing a firearm;
2. Currently employed or designated by the agency chief administrator or academy coordinator as a firearms instructor;
3. Never had a license or certificate issued by the commission suspended or revoked;
4. Have at least three years’ experience as either a law enforcement officer or a firearms instructor;
5. Currently hold an Instructor Certificate issued by the commission;
6. Successfully completed the current firearms instructor course; and
7. Pay any required fee.
NOTE: This is an instructor course and participants should be proficient with firearms before attending this training. Every participant will have two chances to pass a pistol and shotgun qualification course of fire one week prior to the course (minimum score of 90%). This pre-class qualification course must be completed during the week December 9-13 by appointment. Make sure to provide an e-mail address and phone number so further details about the course can be sent.
Needed for Firearms Instructor Course:
Weapons: Semi-auto duty weapon with at least 3 magazines and Police style 12-gauge pump action shotgun
Police duty belt with holster and magazine case
Ammunition:
- 1000 rounds of pistol
- 50 rounds of 00 Buck 12 gauge
- 20 rounds of 12 gauge slugs 1oz
Any other equipment for being outside (water, sun block, rain gear, etc.)
